About the Album
On his captivating new concept record Camera Obscura, saxophonist Felipe Salles dives into the world of chamber jazz, as his longtime quartet is joined by The Cushman Quartet. His composition “Perspective” was inspired by tango, but it’s anything but a traditional dance piece. The opening, which echoes the passion and precision of Astor Piazzolla, gives way to a powerful solo by pianist Nando Michelin. There’s a stirring passage from the string quartet before Salles’ takes a stratospheric solo. The track ends with a thrilling dialogue between the strings and the rhythm section, which also includes bassist Keala Kaumeheiwa and drummer Steve Langone.
