About the Album

"Najwa" is the title track from composer and trumpeter Wadada Leo Smith's new album "Najwa." Joining Smith is all-star lineup with Michael Gregory Jackson, Henry Kaiser, Brandon Ross and Lamar Smith on guitar, Bill Laswell on electric bass, Pheeroan akLaff on drums, and Adam Rudolph on percussion. The album consists of four compositions in tribute to past masters of creative music, Ornette Coleman, John Coltrane, Ronald Shannon Jackson, and Billie Holiday, as well as the title track "Najwa," in remembrance of a love lost.
