About the Album
“Escher’s Staircase” is an original composition by New York-based jazz pianist and composer-arranger Junichiro Mataga, featured on his second leader album. The piece won the 2024 Lennon Award—the top annual honor in the Jazz category of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest—after first being selected by the contest's panel of judges as the Grand Prize winner in Session I. It later triumphed in a global online vote against the Session II winner, securing its place as the year’s most outstanding jazz composition.
