Sean Noonan: Man No Longer Me

Man No Longer Me is about the transformation of a man who gets tickled by a sunbeam one morning on a mountain top and who, as the story progresses, wanders and gets lost in a desert and transforms into a coyote.

All clear, so far?

New York avant-garde drummer Sean Noonan's incoherent, barely musical ramblings were born from "harmolodic jazz, bleeding-edge rock and avant-garde classical music.

"He is a modern day sonic griot (storyteller), wandering the globe gathering stories, legends and folklore like a punk-jazz Alan Lomax."

So sayeth his publicity.

In "Man Vs. Machine" he cries, with much echo, "Set me free," but then in "Not I," complains that he is "a grown man with no plan."

Paranoia appears to set in on the title track: "I've seen rats... You threaten me."

"The far-ranging sounds of Noonan's wide-spectrum music combines the loquacity of an Irish bard, the narrative rhythms of Samuel Beckett, and the raw physicality of a street-smart boxer."

So too sayeth his publicity.

Waiting For Godot is a doddle compared with sitting through the discordant aural tripe of Man No Longer Me.

The point is that there is no point, of course. Sean Noonan is so far out the trains don't run there, and never will. Oliver Cromwell—bless his cotton socks—once said, "No man goes further than the man who does not know whither he is going."
