The Derek Bronston Group: Longing
Derek Bronston is a regular on the New York jazz scene and his debut CD LONGING featuring special guest RCA/Victor recording artist Tom Harrell, is an excellent example of his mark as a guitarist and as a composer/bandleader. Derek composed ten songs on this debut and creates a melodic environment for Chris Lightcap on bass, Lisa Parrott on alto/baritone saxophone, Heinrich Kobberling on drums and percussion. Bassist Gary Wang joins Derek on “Angel” and “Haiku.” The songs are true reflections of cool, each with their own style, which range from bebop to avante garde. Both Tom Harrell and Lisa Parrott are worth the price of the CD if only for their hip improvisation and solos on the title track and “See Minor.” Derek Bronston flavors each composition with his own brand of panache, lyrical beauty and guitar playing with influences reminiscent of ECM, John Abercrombie and John Surman. Bronston speaks volumes about who he is and what his audiences can expect from his musical talent.

Tracks: Longing; Letting Go; See Minor; 105th Street Song; For Jerry; Groove 32; Angel; Frogs; L.C.; Haiku

Musicians: Derek Bronston-guitar; Chris Lightcap-bass; Lisa Parrott-alto/baritone sax; Heinrich Kobberling-drums/percussion; Tom Harrell-flugelhorn; Gary Wang-bass.
