Track review of "Let Go"

Keith Fiala: Let Go
"Let Go" from trumpeter/composer Keith Fiala is a track that is a near-perfect blend of groove, effects, orchestration, and solos.

After a brief textural intro of cascading trumpet and a segue into a smooth jazz vibe, the tune offers an infectious easy-to-hum-along melody laid down by a doubling of horn and keys. The selection's bridge reflects back to the intro statement—a savvy arranging technique.

This selection is another from Renaissance Man Fiala, who has successfully branched out from trumpet stardom into additional artistic areas including composing, video production, and editing. All those elements shine here.

While Fiala's trumpet headlines this show, the mix is such that his horn blends nicely with Dr. Ben Irom's keys on the melody. The track features a fine guitar solo by Marc Lionetti. Lionetti's effort fits the groove well and stimulates. Irom's piano then arrives with a fine complementing keyboard ride. The rhythm section, spearheaded by drummer Johnny Friday and bassist Tyler Honsel, drives things along with an atomic-clock pocket. A killer altissimo trumpet exclamation from the leader closes the track definitively.

The selection has a cinematic dimension to it and dovetails well with the corresponding video with which it was released. "Let Go," while a rather simple directive is, in sum, a deceptive single that does indeed stick.
