Giorgio Gaslini - Laura Conti: Ellaura

Nei cinque Cd di Gaslini Songbook, opera monumentale e di impegnativa fruizione, il compositore e pianista milanese accompagnava tredici diverse voci, maschili o femminili, nell'interpretazione di cento canzoni da lui scritte (sia testo che musica). Al contrario in Ellaura egli ripercorre assieme a Laura Conti un repertorio molto vario di canzoni di altri autori (con la sola eccezione di "A Fool Is Love", dovuto alla sua penna): si va quindi da Prince a Gershwin, da Porter a Carmichael, da Kurt Weill al tema di Roscoe Mitchell, che chiude il Cd in modo eccentrico.

L'aspetto più rimarchevole della voce della Conti è il timbro, che, rotondo, morbido, accarezzante, pedilige il registro medio, con poche escursioni nell'acuto e toccando talvolta note più gravi, con inflessioni brunite e confidenziali di una certa suggestione. L'intonazione invece non sempre raggiunge la perfezione, per lo più nelle note più alte, e soprattutto l'approccio, carente di pathos e personalità, non è in grado di differenziare e caratterizzare in modo significativo le diverse interpretazioni. Il senso dinamico appare un po' piatto, senza slanci lirici, senza spaziature imprevedibili, senza esasperazioni, innescando uno swing pacato e uniforme. Talvolta la cantante tenta di vivacizzare l'esecuzione ricorrendo ad espedienti che risultano però di dubbio gusto, come l'uso del fischio in "Dream A Little Dream of Me".

Il contributo di Gaslini, più che un sontuoso accompagnamento, costituisce una guida e un'interpretazione parallela. Egli filtra con eleganza e autorevolezza molti modelli pianistici del jazz degli anni Trenta, Quaranta, Cinquanta ed anche di anni recenti, come capita nel brano a sua firma. Qua e là (per esempio nell'introduzione di "It's All Right With Me") sa inoltre introdurre opportunamente cadenze assorbite dalla musica classica. Il pianismo di Gaslini presenta un tocco sempre ben calibrato, un'esemplare sapienza armonica, una misura di equilibrio apollineo e un po' malinconico. La sua classe stagionata sa dunque conferire una certa dignità a Ellaura, ma non è sufficiente a farne un disco imperdibile.
