Jazz Art Orchestra: Drums and Jao

La Jazz Art Orchestra, diretta da Carlo Gelmini, è una bella realtà per il jazz italiano. Per questa occasione la big band italiana ha scelto diversi ospiti: il sassofonista americano, ma residente in Italia, Michael Rosen, Mauro Negri al clarinetto e Fabrizio Bosso alla tromba. Ma il tema del disco, come sottolinea il titolo stesso, sono i batteristi e quindi troviamo in bella evidenza Ellade Bandini, Mazzimo Manzi e Christian Mayer, che hanno modo di mettere in mostra la loro bravura a confronto con un sound simile a quello di altre famose formazioni che hanno fatto storia guidate da batteristi come Gene Krupa o Buddy Rich. I brani sono famosi, gli arrangiamenti di musicisti affermati ed i solisti di alto livello, così come l'accompagnamento inossidabile della big band.

Si spazia per tutta la storia del genere, andando da brani di Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn a quelli dei più moderni Joe Zawinul e Randy Brecker. È un tipo di musica che accende l'umore del pubblico ed eseguito impeccabilmente senza sbavature di alcun tipo. Li si ascolterebbe volentieri più spesso in giro per i teatri italiani, per lo meno per far capire che questo tipo di musica ha lo stesso valore di quella eseguita dalle orchestre sinfoniche.
