Sara Gazarek and Josh Nelson: Dream in the Blue
Dopo anni di collaborazioni in comune (il pianista era presente nei precedenti quattro album della cantante e lei in due lavori del partner), Sara Gazarek e Josh Nelson hanno deciso di formare un duo che ha preceduto quest'incision con varie esibizioni live. La cantante, nata a Seattle ma Losangelina d'adozione, ha debuttato nel 2005 con l'album Yours ottenendo un immediato successo che s'è consolidato negli anni seguenti con eccellenti valutazioni della critica e nei referendum del pubblico.

Dotata di uno stile personale, che fonde i riverberi nasali del timbro con inflessioni cristalline, la Gazarek presenta un album che spazia da momenti prettamente jazzistici come "On the Sunny Side of the Street" (dove evidenzia doti di scat singer e plasticità ritmica) a intense reinterpretazioni tratte dal songbook di Nick Drake ("Cello Song"), Beatles("Blackbird"), Bonnie Raitt ("I Can't Make You Love Me") e Laura Mvula ("Father Father").

Gli altri brani si dividono tra originals e noti standard ridisegnati con intelligenza come "No Moon At All" e "Mood Indigo." La relazione tra la cantante e il pianista è empatica e le loro interpretazioni si caratterizzano per la dimensione intima e ricercata, ricca di silenzi e chiaroscuri. Fa eccezione l'estroversa versione del classico "O Pato," contenente un pregnante assolo di Nelson.
