Kassap - Lavant - Lopez - Médioni - Tchamitchian: Ascension, Tombeau de John Coltrane
Ascension, Tombeau de John Coltrane traduce in versi l'ossessione del poeta francese Franck Médioni nei confronti di John Coltrane. Come osserva nelle ampie ed interessanti note di copertina, in francese ed inglese, Médioni ha ascoltato tutto Coltrane... Cosí tante volte che adesso quella musica abita ormai dentro di lui.
E questo "Ascension" è un poema declamato ed urlato da Denis Lavant, in cui domande su musica e vita si alternano a riflessioni su opere che hanno fatto storia. Il trio - costituito da Sylvain Kassap ai clarinetti (che apre con "For John Coltrane" di Albert Ayler), Claude Tchamitchian al contrabbasso e Ramon Lopez alla batteria - ha una presenza molto forte - anche se "sullo sfondo". Le loro improvvisazioni in stile free lasciano la scena a Lavant che da bravo attore sa dare vita ai versi, rendendoli quasi palpabili, partecipe a suo modo dell'inquietudine del poeta che li ha scritti, ispirato dallo spirito coltraniano oltre che dalla linfa e vitalità dal trio Kassap-Tchamitchian-Lopez.
