Charles Lloyd and The Marvels: I Long to See You
by Stefano Merighi

Wonders seem to never cease where Charles Lloyd is concerned. In a career spanning more than half a century, Lloyd's well of creativity has never run dry. He remains peerless when it comes to producing transcendent music. While plenty of musicians tend to slow down as they get older, the opposite seems to be happening with this septuagenarian. In the five years prior to the release of this album, Lloyd delivered Mirror (ECM, 2010), a superbly rendered ...

Charles Lloyd SFJAZZ San Francisco, CA April 24-26, 2015 Even in the idiosyncratic world of jazz, Charles Lloyd stands apart. Born in Memphis in 1938, Lloyd is a master of the tenor saxophone and flute. His ethnic mix--Irish, Cherokee, African, and Mongolian--mirrors the vast number of musical styles he has crossed paths with. Appearing onstage with stars such as Booker Little as a teenager, Lloyd went on to play with many blues greats in his ...

Charles Lloyd New Quartet National Concert Hall Dublin, Ireland November 18, 2014 At seventy six, saxophonist/flutist and composer Charles Lloyd could be forgiven for resting on his considerable laurels. Most musicians, however, are reluctant to trade the buzz of live performance for the free bus pass and Lloyd is no exception. Lloyd still performs in the major concert halls and at the most prestigious jazz festivals around the world to standing ovations and glowing ...

Belgrade Jazz Festival 2014 Dom Omladine, Dom Sindikata Belgrade, Serbia October 24-27, 2014 When back in 2005, the Dom Omladine Beograda decided to revive the Belgrade Jazz Festival, which was abruptly discontinued due to happenings in the Balkan's region, the organization faced with two mounting tasks--in a very short time it had to create a festival that had to live up to the dizzying heights and reputation that the festival had in the past ...

Since 2008 the non-for-profit label Resonance has put out a number rare historic, previously unreleased, recordings. Saxophonist John Coltrane's 1966 Temple University concert Offering: Live at Temple University (Resonance, 2014) and pianists Tommy Flanagan and Jaki Byard's 1982 duet at Keystone Korner The Magic of 2 (Resonance, 2011) are a couple examples from this treasure trove. Similarly Manhattan Stories is saxophonist Charles Lloyd's two live dates from 1965 the first at Judson Hall and the second at Slugs' Saloon.
