Alberto Pinton: Nascent

Read "Nascent" reviewed by Glenn Astarita

Italian multi-woodwind specialist Alberto Pinton earns his living in Stockholm. Spanning the past several years, and via the level of band support he receives, it reaffirms that there's no shortage of world-class talent in Sweden. Pinton's muscular and hard-driving presence on clarinet and baritone saxophone signals a program that largely smokes, other than when he tempers the modalities with raspy flute work, evidenced on the buoyant jazz-waltz vamp, “Clean Slate." The leader bridges boisterous levels of ultra- modern jazz with ...

Alberto Pinton: Nascent

Read "Nascent" reviewed by AAJ Italy Staff

Alberto Pinton: Nascent

Read "Nascent" reviewed by Eyal Hareuveni

Italian-born, Stockholm-based sax and woodwinds player Alberto Pinton new quartet Nascent = 14719 brings the best of him. Pinton is an experienced and varied musician who honed his art in dozens of recordings as a leader, co-leader-- in his own former quartet and quintet, Dog Out quartet with saxophonist Fredrik Nordström and another collaborative quartet with saxophonist Jonas Kullhammar or as a sideman; a clever composer who is well versed with the rich jazz legacy but does not feel bound ...

Pinton - Kullhammar - Zetterberg - Nordeson: Chant

Read "Chant" reviewed by AAJ Italy Staff

Alberto Pinton / Jonas Kulhammar / Torbjorn Zetterberg / Kjell Nordeson: Chant

Read "Chant" reviewed by Stuart Broomer

This beefy quartet was drawn from existing Stockholm bands by baritone saxophonist/clarinetist Alberto Pinton at the suggestion of Clean Feed producer Pedro Costa. As bassist Torbjörn Zetterberg describes it in his liner note, it's half of his octet, half of tenor and baritone saxophonist Jonas Kullhammar's quartet, half of Kullhammar and drummer Kjell Nordeson's quartet Nacka Forum and more than half of Pinton's quintet. The group that emerges from three days of live recording in Coimbra, Portugal is a free-bop ...

Nils Lindberg / Margareta Bengtson: As We Are

Read "As We Are" reviewed by Chris Mosey

With climate change and recent weather, the Shakespearean sonnet “Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer's Day?" would seem to have become a trifle outmoded. Still, where there's a Will there's a way and Nils Lindberg has set the piece to music.

Lindberg is a true Renaissance man. From his home in Gagnef, a small village deep in the forests of the Swedish province of Dalecarlia, he emerges every now and again to dazzle us ordinary mortals with his many ...

Alberto Pinton Quintet: Vita Pratica

Read "Vita Pratica" reviewed by AAJ Italy Staff
