Album Description

While You Were Out was originally released in 1986 on the compilation LP This Is The Funk on Emergency Records and re-released on Paul Shapiro Music in 2024. It was recorded by Foreign Legion, a band led by Paul Shapiro and fronted by Shapiro on sax and vocals and Steven Bernstein on trumpet. The band performed at The Mudd Club, CBGB, Danceteria, The Ritz (now Webster Hall), The Limelight, The Lone Star Café, Wetlands and many other venues. The compilation LP featured tracks by Joe Bowie’s Defunkt, Kelvyn Bell’s Kelvynator, Melvin Gibbs’ MG’s Funk Posse, Prince Charles and the City Beat Band, Tomas Doncker’s IQ, James White and the Blacks, John Mulkerin’s Liquid Hips and Tom Ward’s Funktionaries.
