Album Description

This trio started to play concerts together the year prior to the pandemic. After working for many years with his own quartet and the octet, Stockholm Jazz Underground, Hans wanted to plunge deeper into the possibilities of the guitar and a more intimate setting for interaction and improvisation. The guitar trio is a challenging format but also open sounding, with lots of space for the musicians to explore. When Hans played together with Swedish rising jazz stars Mauritz Agnas - bass, and Karl-Henrik Ousbäck – drums for the first time, he knew that he’d found his trio. Everything felt comfortable and swinging in the right way. Starting out with playing a mix of standards and older original tunes, Hans spent time last year writing new songs especially with this new trio in mind. The result is a mix of music rooted in the rich jazz tradition with broad contemporary influences. This summer the trio went into the studio a recorded seven songs that became their debut album, ”Way Station”. Swedish Grammy-awarded cellist Hanna Dahlkvist appears on two tracks as a guest, adding another layer to the canvas. Hans Olding, guitar, born in Stockholm holds a degree the Royal Academy of Music and the Paris Conservatory (CNSM de Paris). He has played and toured on several continents, with musicians from all over the world and released seven, well-received records as a leader/co-leader. Hans writes music for, and plays with some of Sweden's most wellknown musicians. He also runs several exciting projects in Europe, together with musicians from e.g. France, Italy and the Nordic countries. "Olding has the ability to express his original voice, with its own peculiarities, and with a narrative development that is increasingly interesting, even playing it back over and over again." - All About Jazz
