Album Description

New York-based jazz bassist Yuki Yamamura releases his highly anticipated debut album "View of 124." Drawing from the skills and experiences he developed with local musicians in New York, as well as the balance between his identity as a Japanese artist after his time living abroad and returning home, Yamamura crafted a blend of these elements into a unique jazz sound.

This marks Yamamura's debut leader album, featuring nine original tracks, all recorded in New York. The entire album consists of original compositions by Yamamura, selected from around 300 genre- less demo tracks he recorded between 2018 and 2023, which are also available on his Instagram. These tracks were rearranged specifically for a piano trio format. Renowned New York-based jazz pianist Junichiro Mataga, known for his award- winning compositions and arrangements, produced and co-arranged the album, breathing new life into the pieces alongside Yamamura.

Three singles are already available for digital streaming as pre-released tracks: “Early Summer,” showcasing the band's impeccable ensemble work, “Oriental Waltz,” which reflects the atmosphere of the Asian districts in New York and a sense of nostalgia for Japan, and “Birth,” composed with the intention of making 7/4 time sound natural and inspired by the preciousness of life.

The album was recorded in March 2024 at Acoustic Recording in Brooklyn, New York. The lineup features jazz pianist Junichiro Mataga, whose leader album "Sketches" received high praise from jazz legend Ron Carter, and drummer Yosuke Nagayama, who has performed with renowned drummer Questlove.

The recording was engineered by Peter Karl, who worked with the Grammy Award-winning Arturo O'Farrill & The Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra. Mixing and mastering were handled by Akihiro Nishimura, a Grammy Award-winning engineer for Gonzalo Rubalcaba’s albums and engineer for pianist Makoto Ozone.
