Album Description
"Thinking Heart" is the debut album of acclaimed NYC guitarist Andrea Longato, featuring six original compositions where jazz opens up to a kaleidoscope of different styles and moods. On this release, Longato is joined by an all-star rhythm section (Rob Heath on drums, Bryan Percivall on bass) that masterfully supports his distinctive style and artistic vision. Andrea Longato is an established guitarist, composer, and producer whose career spans a wide range of musical genres and outlets. His original music draws inspiration from notable instrumentalists such as Bill Frisell, Wayne Krantz, and Daniel Lanois, embodying a cross-genre aesthetic that is both contemplative and vibrant. Longato envisions Thinking Heart as a truly collective effort, melding the trio’s diverse musical identities to create an eclectic tapestry of influences and styles, all anchored by a commitment to improvisation and exploration that is quintessentially jazz. The album opens with “Daisies”, a suggestive track where ambient and post-rock elements are “molded” into a song form, highlighted by an evocative solo. “Sure Thing” tinkers with subtle dissonances, featuring a chord melody that strikes a balance between minimalism and earnestness, and a lead- guitar performance that is reminiscent of Robben Ford. “Mona Lisa Kite” offers a brief detour into country/americana territory, showcasing Longato’s organic phrasing and melodic taste. “Wishlist” is a moody ballad that blends elements of classical music with a contemporary jazz approach - the delicate interplay between the musicians makes for a performance that is both meditative and engaging. “Scattered” is a dynamic 6/8 number where ample through-composed movements intertwine with exciting solo explorations by Longato, who also makes sure to leave plenty of space for his rhythm section to shine. The record closes with “Chief,” an afrobeat-infused modal number where guitar and bass seem to chase each other at first, only to “reconvene” at the end of the tune. Here, Andrea’s guitar is equally at ease with sophisticated chordal textures and virtuosic lead bursts.
