'Back in 1997, when I was staying in New York, Burton and I met at a friends house for dinner. We talked about the changes the 60's brought to the music. The first band playing really free music, the '*Free Form Improvisation Ensemble', Burton founded together with Alan Silva in 1963, the year I was born... Andi and I are playing together since 1997 in different projects, in fact we never played one note with Burton till this recording session. ... Sometimes I felt the music brings us where it wants us to be. That's one of the wonderful moments being an improvising musician: nothing has to be thought about, the free flow of ideas happens automatically within a discussion process.
The more that one realizes, that he or she is free to play what they want, the more the music grows in terms of personal content. Playing in a group is like disucssing subjects which cannot be discussed verbally. The basics for such disucssions are e.g. how to move, how to sound, what kind of energy is necessary..., or, musically thought: sound, silence, motion, duration, emotion... the elaboration of those basics combined with the ability to reflect upon your thoughts and feelings in terms of your environment creates each one's special vocabulary. The free exchange of ideas, the variety of items, and the way to discuss them with each other, depends on the knwoledge and the openmindedness of the players. Respect for the other's ideas is one basic requirement and experienced players tend to have this respect. So for these players it is possible to work togher in a wider variety of contexts and to participate in a worldwide communication. (Michael Fischer, Apiril 2000)
