liner notes REFLECTION AND PASSAGE
As a musician, you learn to interact with a sonically constantly changing, metaphorically charged space, ordered according to certain aesthetic ideas and physical principles. One learns the social parameters and aspects of musical composition as an ensemble or solo artist and, one of the most exciting fields for me: anticipating the possible developments of what is sounding in the moment - worlds that arise in the moment and pass away again. Radically free improvised music makes it possible to learn about life, death (e.g. the sound that comes and goes), about responsibility (towards the sound and those participating in the ensemble) about dedication, loyalty, detachment, will to decide or courage, and much more, both as a listener and even more directly as a multi-spatially interacting sonic actor. As a sound producer, to evoke meaning and imagination of what can be found in the engagement with sound empowers the music-making individual to a certain extent, but, in my opinion, also demands to take responsibility. This reflective space of sound, which sometimes changes fluidly, sometimes abruptly, sometimes hardly noticeably, sometimes very strongly, makes it possible especially for the listeners of radically free improvised music to follow the process of interpretation - decision - creation of the musicians. Reflection and Passage offers some routes by which these processes are comprehensible and enlivened by listening. (M.F.)
