The equipment: the analog, no-effect feedback-saxophone works without any additional processing: two basic microphones (one inside and one outside the saxophone), two small basic amps and the respective Front-of-House amplification system of the venue.
The playing techniques on/with the instrument have been developed and refined since incorporating the acoustic phenomenon feedback into my work.
The recordings sites: The sonic possibilities of the analog, no-effect feedack-saxophone are developed in a dialogic process with the sound of the performance space and hence are influenced by the architectural features and materials of the venue:
Side A was recorded at Semperdepot/Prospekthof, a 30m high space, with an appr. 400m² egg-shaped ground-floor, segmented by 4 galleries with walkways. The music was recorded on the ground floor. The Semperdepot/Prosepekthof was built in 1874-77 and served as a production site for theater decorations and scenery till 1952. Today it is administered by the Acadamy of Fine Arts Vienna and used for exhibitions, presentations and different artistic events. https://hiddenarchitecture.net/semperdepo/
Side B was recorded at Wohlmut, an experimental art space focused on visual and fine arts in Vienna’s 2nd district, curated by Dayan Ozan Özoglu and Deniz Bezer. The space is about 6m high, about 120m² with plastered brick walls and tiled floor, two columns and windows on the opposite side of the speaker. Around exhibitions, Wohlmut hosts public and closed events, concerts, readings, performances, screenings, talks and presentations.
