This suite of music came together in the last year. Most of the songs had already been written, but it wasn't until I improvised The Hitting Wall during a practice session at my parents' house in Greenfield that they began to coalesce into a larger framework. The bass and Indian clubs on the cover are tools that my teachers Herman Burney and Art Carrington taught me, and they are the gifts that I have used to try to understand lessons from this past decade in music and life. The wall is the truth, and I am grateful to have these tools to reckon with it. Thank you to everyone who helped make this music come to life, and thank you for listening.
