"Teen Town" - I wrote this arrangement to feature bassist John Toney in a stylistic tribute to his roots in hip-hop and jazz. Also featured is woodwind great Aaron Heick on Clarinet, Soprano Sax and Baritone Sax. When I wrote the chart, I intuitively added bits of the classic Weather Report tune "Birdland" as coloring and to anchor "Teen Town" in context. After finishing the arrangement, I was surprised to learn from John that the first ever jazz tune he heard growing up was "Birdland"! Cool! As John found his way into jazz from his hip-hop background, I wanted to utilize elements of hip-hop in the chart and chose drum loops for that element. I hope you enjoy this tribute to Jaco as realized through one of his many disciples on electric bass, John Toney.
