Album Description

In 2021, a group of British researchers proposed a new class of exoplanets, covered in water and thick with hydrogen atmospheres, naming them Hycean Worlds, and affirming their potential for life. Inspired by their possibility, New York-based trio Spacepilot devoted their new album to imagining these worlds. Fusing together broad influences, their psychedelic rock sound draws from Avant-Garde Noise, Funk, Gospel, Jazz, Blues, and Techno, reaching for a more experimental sound than previous albums. Recorded live at the iconic Red Horn District in Germany they had access to a literal stable full of vintage instruments. On this 8-track improvised project, Elias Meister (Guitar, Effects), Leo Genovese (Rhodes, Synth, Hammond Organ), and Joe Hertenstein (Drums) envisioned otherworldly ballads, avant-garde moments, soulful rock, and a loose quoting of a Mozart’s canon. Bio: SPACEPILOT invites you to explore familiar and abstract soundscapes, from the moons of Jupiter to the interstellar medium. Their shows of 60 or more minutes of continuous music combine influences from Rock, Funk and Techno to psychedelic sounds into a danceable journey of engaging grooves and melodies. The trio released their debut vinyl 'Exophonia, Live at Nublu' in 2016. And the follow up album 'Particle Horizon' (Springstoff) in 2018 (featuring trumpet legend Tim Hagans and beat poet Jack Daniel as guests). They celebrated the release with shows in New York and Puerto Rico. In 2017 they performed at the prestigious Moers Festival with a contemporary string quartet led by Carolin Pook. In 2017 and 2019 they played at the XJAZZ Festival in Berlin. To date they have toured in Europe three times visiting Hamburg, Berlin, Munich, Leipzig, Prag among others. The Süddeutsche Zeitung (Germany's most publicized newspaper) called their debut 'Floating and dancing in zero gravity!'. Though mostly performing as a trio, they frequently invite guest musicians to their sonic journeys. Besides the before-mentioned, guests have included: Hans Tammen (Buchla), DJ Illvibe (turntables), Vasko Dukovski (bass clarinet), Sebastian Studnitzky (trumpet), and many more.
