So Long Chick' is dedicated to the late Chick Corea. His death in February 2021 was felt throughout the musical world. He inspired and influenced countless musicians, not only in jazz, but across all genres. Of his many facets, this track pays homage to his mastery of melody, progressive harmony and in particular his use of space - when not to play, to sit back, and let the music breathe. I’ve highlighted this by deciding to use only piano and double-bass, so as not to clutter the music and let the harmony shine through.
