Album Description

Slipped Away marks a different direction for Michel Banabila, following decades of work across minimal electronic, film music, ambient, and Fourth World music. Four of the album’s seven tracks (1, 4, 5 and 7) are songs featuring his own lyrics and vocals. On the other three, he uses his voice more freely, improvising sounds in a made-up language.

The songs touch on loss, absence, climate anxiety, childhood and the things we carry with us. Banabila became increasingly interested in exploring his voice as an instrument, using vocoders, vocal processing and other effects to transform and reshape it. “I simply felt like singing,” he says.

The result is melancholic, futuristic Art Pop, where intimate songwriting meets electronic experimentation and processed vocals.

Slipped Away is available now on Bandcamp and will be released on September 25 on all major streaming platforms.
