Album Description
With this album Carmelo Venuto seeks the meeting point between his roots and the search for modern and original jazz sound, exploring modal harmony and interplay. He chose three great musicians and friends, all Sicilian: Rosario Di Leo at the piano, Riccardo Grosso at the double bass, Giuseppe Tringali at the drums. In the titles we find many references to the sea and Sicily. "Rumble" and "Calma" are the two most prominent American tracks, rhythmically and harmonically complex and played with a lot of groove and interplay. "Giulia NS" is instead dedicated to the Alfa Romeo Giulia Nuova Super, automobile of the grandparents, to which are linked many of his memories. "Snow song" is inspired by the lunar landscapes of Etna that in winter from black becomes white. "Empedocle", a riff with groove rock in odd time and oriental shades, like the crossroads of cultures that mixed in Porto Empedocle. "Sicca ranni" is the ancient name of a beach of Agrigento. A song with a very melodic theme, exposed by double bass and piano in unison. "Human turtle" takes its cue from an old history of fishermen and develops with neo-soul sounds and a modal harmonic structure "Onde" has a flow that recalls the movements of the sea, with an atmosphere of mystery.
