Album Description
The album came about through his artistic research within sonic possibilities of saxophones answering a question how the vocabulary gained in the process can be used in a compositional context. In Kārlis's own words: "Although this was a research mostly within the extended techniques, which often can be rather abstract, I found myself more attracted to sounds that would somehow relate to melody or harmony or remind me of sounds from nature or something tribal-like. Through the research and the findings arouse the compositional ideas. I wanted to compose in a way that I would compose for an orchestra, but instead of using different instruments for those layers (voices) I used the different possibilities of the saxophone. Yet the album contains also 3 solo (in its traditional sense) pieces. Mostly I imagined the whole structure and general concept of the pieces beforehand, nevertheless my composing was (and is) very intuitive almost like slowed down improvisation." This album is Karlis’s view on the relationship between the instrument and the player. It’s a feedback chain where the impulse from the source to the instrument comes back to the source again as an inspiration for creating a new sound world - inhabited by the essence of both the instrument and the artist at the same time.
