Oddly Familiar Volume 3 is the third installment in Toronto-based pianist and composer Thompson Egbo-Egbo's Oddly Familiar series, following Volume 1 (2022) and Volume 2 (2024). Released in 2025 through Audio Network, the album expands Egbo-Egbo's piano-trio sound into an expressive quintet featuring saxophone, trumpet, piano, bass, and drums.

Across eight original compositions, Egbo-Egbo draws on swing, Latin rhythms, and contemporary groove-based jazz, balancing memorable melodies with sophisticated harmony and atmospheric textures. From the energetic bossa nova of "São Paulo" and the relaxed groove of "Not So Fast" to the intimate ballad "If Only It Were True" and the swinging 3/4 pulse of "Dean Street," the album moves naturally between moods while maintaining a strong sense of cohesion.

Here in the Oddly Familiar series, his original compositions take center stage, combining the spontaneity of a jazz ensemble with a contemporary, cinematic production aesthetic. Volume 3 is melodic, rhythmic, and atmospheric -- music rooted in the language of jazz but shaped by Egbo-Egbo's distinctly modern approach to composition and ensemble interplay.
