Album Description
MELODIC HOPE is the second release with MWENDO DAWA as a trio after Ove Johanson, tenorsax, passing away. The group has a long history but is still finding new expressions and the trio has found a language of its own. 2025 is also a 50 year celebration of the forming of MWENDO DAWA as a group. The music has always been searching new paths in the world of Jazz - freeform - fusion - avant garde - electro acoustic music. Improvised music where live electronics smoothly integrates with the acoustic instruments. Music that requires concentrated listening, but also music with a great portion of humour and exciting ideas. Music that for the most of the part is improvised, but divided into separate compositions. Review clips from the last CD as a trio “Silent Voice”: The Swahili phrase ”mwendo dawa” translates to ”the way to a special goal”, and listeners might easily be carried along that path, while being inspired to explore the band´s hefty catalog. “Editors pick” aug 2018 Dave Cantor, Down Beat It has always been about finding Mwendo Dawas own personal path and aesthetics, still, embracing all – free-improv, electronics, contemporary music, fusion, with healthy doses of humour and irony. The trio still finds new expressions, and as before, continues to alter and refine its own language. Eyal Hareuveni, Salt Peanuts I say high energy, but the distinctive thing about the work of the excellent Lindeborg and this band has always been a quick-silver, rythmically and chromatically rich sensitivity to shape-shifting matters of dynamics and texture, the relations of suspenseful detail and overarching emergent musical shape, the whole amounting to a radiacally refigured, post-free jazz/music concrete od the dialectics of ”in-the- moment” intensity and ultimate formal coherence. And for all the urgent rhythmic intensty here, there`s plenty freshly turned lyricism to enjoy. Michael Tucker, JazzJournal, UK
