Album Description

light / beyond is the fifth album by Portuguese bassist and composer Cícero Lee, a work shaped by the idea of light as movement, distance and transformation. Rooted in contemporary jazz, the album brings together melodic clarity, rhythmic openness and a strong sense of collective dialogue.

The music unfolds through original compositions that balance lyricism and intensity, leaving space for each musician’s voice to emerge within a carefully defined sonic landscape. Rather than relying on fixed stylistic formulas, light / beyond moves between introspection and expansion, acoustic interplay and atmospheric depth.

The ensemble features Cícero Lee on double bass and compositions, Ricardo Toscano on saxophone, Grammy-winning pianist Salomão Soares and drummer Joel Silva. Together, they create a sound that is both grounded and searching: music built on listening, interaction and a shared sense of direction.

Mixed and mastered in São Paulo by Grammy-winning engineer Thiago “Big” Rabello, light / beyond presents a contemporary jazz language with a distinctly Portuguese sensibility, where composition and improvisation meet in a space of clarity, tension and release.
