Album Description

escribir: (group lead by Juan Saidón), present their second album of originals, haikus. With this new work, escribir:, becomes the first artist to release two albums on Isla Desierta Discos. haikus is an exploration from the perspective of the contemporary urban artist into the imaginary posed by haiku (Japanese literary genre). This process takes some of the constitutive elements from the literary genre (nature, dispossession and the brief) to aesthetically anchor itself in the improvisational tradition of jazz and contemporary instrumental song, resulting in eight original compositions where a strong melodic presence prevails. The nine pieces that make up this album are original compositions by Juan Saidón, with the exception of ‘en los ojos de los peces’ (track 7) whose authorship is shared with Tomás Cabado. The guitarists also made joint arrangements for the repertoire. The group is completed by Leila Chab (soprano clarinet), Patricio Böttcher (bass clarinet), Julián Mekler (double bass) and Manuel Tirso Rubio Carreras (drums). While maintaining the strong guitar presence recorded in the previous work, the inclusion of double bass and clarinets provides with a new dynamic reinforcing both the rhythmic section and the melodic character of the music. 'haikus' releases October 15 on Isla Desierta Discos.
