Album Description

Guitar Groove gathers some original material that sheds light into Catherine's diverse musical taste. In addition to "Hallo George", his tribute to pianist George Shearing, the opening tune "Merci Afrique" is "dedicated to African musicians all over the world in gratitude for their invaluable contributions to the birth of jazz." A little taste of Philip's fretless guitar work is heard on the salute "To Wayne And Joe" (Shorter and Zawinul, of course). The guitarist's compositions reflect an introspective nature and an appreciation for not only musical influences but for the people and places who have touched his life. The tune "Sunset Shuffle" was written before going to perform at 'Le Sunset' jazz club in Paris. Of "Good Morning Bill", Catherine says, 'This piece is dedicated to a very fine human being and close friend whom I usually meet in the morning." The tune "To My Sister" was written in honor of his sister Lili. "She helped me a great deal in my musical growth giving her time and most appreciated advice on my musical choices." On Guitar Groove, Philip Catherine furthers a hypnotic mastery of tonal and harmonic conception that is singular in its timeless beauty. http://www.disquesdreyfus.com/catalogue/365992-guitar-groove.html
