Additional Personnel / Information

Reggie Watkins: trombone, recitation. Recorded live March 29, 2025, at Andrew Carnegie Music Hall, Carnegie, Pennsylvania. Live recording by Jay Weaver; mixed by Matt Parker.

Album Description

Recorded live at the release concert for Reggie Watkins's album Rivers, this unedited 14-minute performance sets three pieces end to end: an original drone composition by Watkins and Matt Parker; Watkins's recitation of Pastor Martin Niemöller's postwar verse "First They Came," which he adapts so the speaker ends by naming his own guilt; and McCoy Tyner's "Contemplation." One continuous track, recorded in one take with no edits.
