Echoes of Origin is an album by pianist, composer, and improviser Boris Acosta-Jaramillo that explores the shifting boundaries between composition, improvisation, and collective musical expression.
Moving between contemporary jazz, experimental music, and open-form improvisation, the album brings together eight pieces that explore contrasting musical environments, from intimate and reflective passages to dense rhythmic textures and expansive ensemble interactions.
Throughout the recording, Acosta-Jaramillo approaches composition not as a fixed structure but as a framework for musical discovery. Written material and spontaneous decisions coexist, allowing individual voices to shape the direction of the music while maintaining a sense of collective identity.
The result is a recording concerned as much with the process of musical creation as with its final form—an exploration of interaction, transformation, and the possibilities that emerge when composition and improvisation meet.
