Album Description

When Julian and I recorded the quartet album we started playing in the main room together, and like many times before the understanding was instantaneous. We proceeded with our recording date, but knew we needed to do a duo outing. A couple of months later it was just the two of us. And from the first moment we were happy in the wonderful Hide Out, being a sonic spa like always. What you, dear listener, now here is the exact recording as it evolved tune by tune. You get to feel and step along with us, as we get deeper into each other’s playing and ruminate through the three unplanned, yet most organic phases. The first ten vignettes: I started inside the piano, muting strings, to set a tone of exploration peaking with #9, This Guy and ending with Odori - The Dance when it felt most natural to start vocalizing. We then took a few minutes, listened to bits of the recorded and I grabbed a bunch of mallets and percussion items. On to the second part: which I spent largely standing up and playing the rim and strings more like a drum set and Julian did a half pipe on maybe my favorite piece, our title track, Delicious. We recorded seven more short stories and took a break. While listening, we decided it’s time for our vocal shenanigans. An explanation, we enjoyed doing spontaneous vocal improvs for a few years now. I remember it started quite natural when late one evening at the venerable Dispensary Lounge, fun and merriment ensued and we started trading Bebop lines that ended up in spoken word phrases and vocal licks. It since grew to the point, that sometimes it spontaneously bubbles up. So why not to do it now? We proceeded to do five tracks. “So Dry”, see #21, is a now a standing phrase between us. I sincerely hope you enjoy our musical offering. It was Delicious to make. Julian: Delicious was the reaction I had to listening to these tracks for the first time. It is not often that I enjoy eating my own food. What sweetened the deal was the fragrance of friendship. The session was pure joy, a piece of cake. My dear friend Uli and I are excited to share these scrumptious treats with you. Bon appétit!
