Album Description
What do the architects Oscar Niemeyer, le Corbusier, Renzo Piano and Maya Lin have in common with music? Both architecture and music are art forms based on constructive rules that call for a bending. Jazz is particularly close to architecture: clear lines, forms and wild excursions into improvisation. The connection to tradition and at the same time the freedom away from it coexist like in hardly any other forms of artistic expression. Similar to the tension between composition-improvisation and "classical"-jazz, Florian Ross deals with the disciplines of photography and architecture, which invite the gentle breaking of traditions, but are still deeply rooted in their inherent structure. All this meets here - Florian Ross invites us to wander through constructs of music and discover structures of sound. The combination of woodwind ensemble and rhythm section, unprecedented in jazz history, represents an ideal platform for this. Above all, the solo woodwind group offers the opportunity to weave the two ensembles close together and thus prevent the classical ensemble from becoming only a group of accompanists. The recording of new compositions on sound media represents a similar materialization of the creative content like the construction of a building according to an architect's plan. Only then can the intention and the work be permanently "seen" or "heard" by the public. Realizations in concerts, on the other hand, are only permanent for the time of their performance - like a bridge that is torn down 60 minutes after its construction. It's a sonorous project full of contradictions that will find their exciting resolutions in music. Since 1995 Florian Ross has been writing music for various jazz and crossover formations.
