violinAlbum Description
Norwegian guitarist and composer Trond Kallevåg is known for blending Norwegian folk traditions with jazz, ambient textures, and a cinematic sense of storytelling. Drawing inspiration from West Norwegian hymnody, traditional ballads, and American musical landscapes, his work often explores themes of migration, distance, and belonging.
This album is his third release on the Norwegian label Hubro and focuses on Norwegian emigration stories to North America, told through imagined letters, memories, and emotional landscapes. The music moves between Norwegian folk idioms, jazz improvisation, and spacious, film-like soundscapes, with guitar and pedal steel at the center of the ensemble texture.
Each track functions as a musical chapter — from departure and anticipation, through landscapes and encounters with the unfamiliar, to longing, hope, and the idea of home. The album is understated, melodic, and narrative-driven, with a strong focus on atmosphere, tone, and form.
Upon release, the album was selected by Bandcamp as one of the best jazz albums of the year, receiving strong international attention.
