Christmastime
Swingle Singers
Duration: 31:51

This year's inductee is Christmastime by the Swingle Singers. First released by the Philips label in 1968, the album features the vocal group famous for singing notes and tones in counterpoint rather than lyrics. The a cappella group was formed by Ward Swingle in 1962 in France after his stretch as a member of Les Double Six, which included Mimi Perrin and Christiane Legrand, Michel Legrand's sister.
Known best for their interpretations of Renaissance and Baroque classical works, the Swingle Singers recorded this beautiful Christmas album in France with a jazz feel, produced and engineered by Pierre Fatosme. It's absolutely gorgeous, gentle and sophisticated with seasonal charm and grace.

Resurrecting the Amber Sky
Ize Trio
Duration: 04:39
1,355 views
Building on several musical awards, ambassadorial roles and grants, their album first full-length project, The Global Suites, was released in 2024. Part I of the piece “Resurrecting the Amber Sky” demonstrates not only how engaging the performances are but also how seamlessly woven the compositional fabric is. Perhaps as noteworthy, their implicit message about empathy and action regarding world immigration urgencies is perfectly timed. Listen for guest bassist John Patitucci’s interplay with cellist Alatrash, as well as the entrancing wordless vocals by Farayi Malek and Heiraza.

And Some Blues...

Originally the blues were considered the basis, or the soul of jazz, but today many jazz artists don’t include any in their performances at all. As a composer, and a pianist, I ALWAYS want to include the blues though! I really love what the band contributed on this - Luques Curtis on bass sounds so cool on the intro! Igmar Thomas on trumpet really kicks in about halfway through on the bridge - I just love that part! Rudy Royston on drums is just feeding us all the best grooves too. I know a lot of people don't think about the sound too much, but the recording is stellar - the piano, trumpet - everyone sounds really good sound wise don't you think?
Near the end we wind up with a slow blues after the fireworks. It is always exciting working with our band on new music and I'm really happy how And Some Blues..." turned out. It is hard though to shoot a video while you are actually recording the tune, because you are really focused on playing and listening rather than looking at the camera, but I think director Ricky Chavez did a really good job on showing musicians hard at work creating all new music. We hope you like it too!
