Mauro Mussoni Quintet: Tempo

Terzo disco per il quintetto del contrabbassista e compositore riminese Mauro Mussoni, che in alcuni brani si allarga a sestetto ospitando il clarinetto basso di Achille Succi, questo Tempo è dedicato a illustrare lo scorrere di una giornata e lo fa mettendo in gioco uno swingante jazz moderno, con composizioni perlopiù su tempi medio veloci, nelle quali si aprono per tutti spazi d’improvvisazione.

Accanto ad alcune tracce piuttosto classiche, come l’iniziale “Lapse” o le veloci “Timafaya” e “Tennis”, nelle quali svettano i sax di Simone La Madia —nelle prime due eccellentemente al soprano —e il trombone di Massimo Morganti con assoli agili ed elastici, troviamo brani più rilassati e narrativi, come “Sweet Evening”, nel quale a un bel solo discorsivo di Morganti risponde più nervosamente Succi.

“Orizzonte” è valorizzato da un notevole assolo del leader, incorniciato da due più brevi di un dolphyano Achille Succi, mentre la conclusiva “Midnight Sun”, più mutevole e in lieve crescendo, vede le voci dei fiati incrociarsi liberamente nello sviluppo tematico e culmina in un’ipnotica conclusione.

Complessivamente Tempo è un lavoro dalle forme piuttosto tradizionali, ma fresco, brioso e ricco di energia, che mette in luce musicisti non di primo piano, ma degni di attenzione.
