Virta

Founded in spring 2011, does not have much regard for genre boundaries. The young trio draws inspiration from the ample fountains of Scandinavian alternative jazz, while possessing a uniquely uncompromising sound of their own. Virta, which means “flow” or “stream” in Finnish, is true to its name. Virta’s critically acclaimed debut album, Tales From The Deep Waters (Tourist Information, 2012), is widely regarded as one of the freshest and most significant experimental recordings that the Finnish music scene has seen in recent years; comparisons have been drawn to the likes of Miles Davis, Supersilent, Jaga Jazzist and Nils Petter Molvaer. During its short period of existence, Virta has gained a reputation as a fierce live ensemble, which has taken the group to the stages of Pori Jazz in Finland and Match & Fuse Festival in Norway
