Michel DeQuevedo

Michel DeQuevedo With 30+ years of performing and 20+ years of teaching experience Michel DeQuevedo arrived to Canada from Mexico City in 2005. He started playing percussion at the age of 8. After taking several early music education courses he attended Mexico City's Escuela Superior de Musica and Academia de Musica Fermatta (which was, at the time, affiliated with Berklee College of Music) He is a singer-songwriter and plays percussions, drum kit, guitar and bass. In Mexico, Michel was a recording and/or performing percussionist/drummer for several Mexican bands and artists including multi Grammy Award winner Julieta Venegas (BMG), multi Grammy Award winner Molotov (Universal), La Lupita (BMG), Pulpo (Sony Music) and more, and participated in many concerts and TV shows as a supporting musician for many artists and singers. He was part of the band “El Son y la Rumba” where he shared stage with the internationally acclaimed trumpeter Luis Gasca (Count Basie, Woody Herman, Mongo Santamaria, Herbie Hancock, Janis Joplin, Santana, etc) and recorded the soundtrack for the Academy Award winner Gabrielle Salvatore’s movie “Puerto Escondido” He has toured U.S.A., Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Chile, Italy, Switzerland and Germany. Since moving to Toronto in July 2005, Michel has played and/or recorded with some of the best artists in Canada, including Juno Award Winner Walk off the Earth, Juno Award Winner Richard Underhill, Juno Award Winner Quique Escamilla, The Eric St- Laurent Trio, Lady Son, The LMT Connection, Random Order and many more. He has played in Toronto’s best venues such as Massey Hall, Roy Thompson Hall, The Opera House, The Rex Hotel, Lula Lounge, The Reservoir Lounge, etc

SHIH- HAN (Emily) SUN (violinist) [email protected] A native of Taiwan, Emily began her study of violin at the age of seven. She comes from a family of music. In 1998 she was awarded a full scholarship at the Chinese Culture University. In 1999, she moved to Canada where she met Sydney Humphreys, who greatly influenced her musical training. She has studied with Yahonaton Berick, Mark Gothoni and currently with Denise Lupien. In 2003, Emily received a Bachelor of Music in Performance (with distinction) and in 2005 a Master of Music in Performance -- both from McGill University

Ken McDonald

Ken is a hard hitting bassist and an evocative composer. Born and raised in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Ken’s musical career came to life when he moved to Toronto and started studying at York University, where he completed his BFA in 2007 and his MA in 2010. During that time Ken studied privately with Artie Roth, Roy Patterson, David Mott, Larry Grenadier and Andrew Downing. In 2008 released his debut album, “The Master Plan” which was followed by an Eastern Canada tour in 2009. In February of 2011 Ken released release his second CD as a leader, entitled “Pay What You Can” which has reached critical acclaim and lead to an Ontario tour

As a young boy, Gordon Hyland loved cars and computers, and wanted to be an aerospace engineer when he grew up. That dream was pushed aside, however, in his mid teens as he found himself irresistibly drawn into the world of music after discovering his grandfather’s record collection - and the siren songs of Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Stan Getz, Duke Ellington, Count Basie - as well as winning an unexpected opportunity to go on a junior high band trip to Japan. Since then, with his trusty tenor saxophone in hand, Hyland pursued the music life diligently, ultimately obtaining both a Bachelors in Fine Arts and in Music (Concordia and University of Toronto), as well as a Masters in Jazz Performance (U of T) with a focus on saxophone and electronics

His distinctive saxophone recordings have been heard internationally since the eighties with major instrumentals such as ‘Flying Easy’, ‘L.A. Days New York Nights’, and ‘Wings of Glory’. Robi Botos

ROBI BOTOS has been hailed as one of the most diverse multi-instrumentalists of this generation.
