Thomas Hass, who is largely self-taught, got a foothold in the jazz scene as a member and co-initiator of the hard bop quintet Page One, who in 1987 won the International Jazz Federation contest for young European jazz groups in Leverkusen, Germany. In the group were talents like Thomas Blachman, Lennart Ginman, Henrik Bolberg and Erik Orum von Spreckelsen and they released two albums live from respectively Montmartre, Copenhagen and Ronnie Scotts in London. At the same time he was member of the fusion group The End with such musicians as Morten Grønvad, Niels Ratzer, Ole Skipper Moesgaard with whom he released two albums with
