Freddy Martin

Born:

Freddy Martin (December 9, 1906 - September 30, 1983) was an American tenor saxophonist and bandleader best known for his smooth, danceable arrangements and his adaptations of classical melodies for modern swing music lovers. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Martin began his musical career as a saxophonist and formed his own band in the early 1930s. He gained national attention with his orchestra during the big band era, performing at prestigious hotel ballrooms and being featured on widely-heard radio broadcasts.

Martin's band was known for its sweet style, appealing to audiences who favoured melodic arrangements over the harder "hot" sounds that were also popular at the time. In 1941, he had a major hit with "Tonight We Love," a song based on Tchaikovsky’s "Piano Concerto No. 1 in B Flat." This piece helped define his orchestra's unique classical-pop-jazz fusion approach and naturally became his theme tune. Throughout the 1940s and 1950s, Martin's band continued to tour and record and featured prominent vocalists such as Clyde Rogers and Merv Griffin.

Jazzmosax

Born:

English version (Dutch version below):

Guitars, IT job, piano, clarinet, and saxophone...

Among these, the saxophone struck a profound chord with me and became a lifelong passion. It led me to discover my love for jazz and improvisation, particularly in the realm of mainstream, melodic jazz. The songs I composed during the '80s and '90s reflect this preference but also incorporate unique harmonies and time signatures.

Although I  frequently performed these compositions on stage, it wasn't until 2022 that I decided to record and release them. This endeavor resulted in two albums, A10 and Thisav, as well as a track named "Chujad."" In August 2023, I unveiled Fried, an album featuring entirely new compositions with a fresh perspective on rhythm and blues chord sequences. February 2025 witnessed the release of Airlift, new compositions with a focus on backing rhythms. Thank you for your support, and I hope you enjoy the music.

Jimmy Farace

From an early age, Jimmy Farace has been captivated by the beauty and expressive power of the baritone saxophone. With an unwavering belief in the instrument’s ability to tell profound musical stories, Farace has already earned praise from some of jazz’s finest voices. "Jimmy Farace’s playing and writing are the mark of someone who demands the attention of a wide audience!" says saxophonist Walter Smith III, while baritone legend Gary Smulyan describes his tone as “deeply emotional, mature, and his sound simply gorgeous.”

Based in Chicago, Farace is quickly becoming recognized as an up-and-coming voice in jazz. His upcoming debut album, Hours Fly, Flowers Die (Shifting Paradigm Records, April 2025), is a heartfelt exploration of nostalgia and time, inspired by Henry Van Dyke’s For Katrina’s Sundial. Featuring GRAMMY-winning bassist Clark Sommers, Dana Hall, Kenny Reichert, Julius Tucker, the KAIA String Quartet, and producer Greg Ward, the album showcases Farace’s original modern jazz compositions and arrangements.
