Stratos Vougas

Born: August 30, 1967

Saxophonist Stratos Vougas was born in Athens in 1967. His musical studies were initiated at the age of five, with a series of piano lessons both one-to-one as well as at the Athens Conservatory. After successfully completing his classical piano studies, jazz won him over and led to his intensive saxophone training. The interim between 1993 and 1995 found Stratos Vougas in New York, where he collaborated with a handful of established jazz musicians, thus gaining invaluable experience. His return to Greece brought on a series of concerts in various Athens jazz clubs as well as throughout the country

Russ Gershon

Born: August 11, 1959

E/O founder/leader/saxophonist/composer Russ Gershon was born in New York on August 11, 1959 and grew up in Westport Connecticut. After studying violin and piano as a wee small lad, under the influence of Rahsaan Roland Kirk and John Coltrane he gravitated to saxophone at age 17. During summers, he worked for his grandfather Joe Leon in New York's Garment District, in close proximity to the record stores and concert venues of Manhattan. Deeply influenced by the bounty of New York jazz scene of the 1970s (from "Loft Jazz" to the Village Vanguard to the swinging West End to Carnegie Hall), he moved to Cambridge Massachusetts to attend Harvard College in 1977

Nadav Haber

Born: May 29, 1967

Nadav Haber started to learn the clarinet at the age of 10. In 1988-89 he lead a qaurtet in the Tel-Aviv clubs in Israel, and played in a blues duo. In the 90's nadav has switched to the tenor sax, and began to explore Ethiopian music. He played in Ethiopian dance bands all over Israel, in Ethiopian clubs and weddings. This has lead to the issue of Ethiopian Blues, and other smaller productions that were aimed at the Ethiopian Israeli market. In recent years Nadav moved back to playing jazz, and in 2003 led a hard bop quintet in Jerusalem. He is currently working on two projects - an Ethiopian Jazz program and a "Favorite ballads" program.

Meilana Gillard

Born: May 4, 1981

Ohio raised (London-born) saxophonist and composer Meilana Gillard emerged as a rising star on the New York scene whilst studying at the New School in the early 2000s.

She has worked with U.S. icons Charli Persip, Christian McBride and also Greg Osby, who released her debut album Day One on his Inner Circle Music label in 2009, as well as Debbie Reynolds, Glenn Campbell and the New York all-female big band DIVA. Based near Belfast since 2012, she's now set to release her second album Dream Within a Dream on May 26th via Lyte Records.

Choosing a chordless trio format, Meilana features MOBO nominated drummer David Lyttle, who has featured her in his own trio and alongside trumpet star Terell Stafford, and whose own recent studio collaborations include Joe Lovano and Talib Kweli

Marc Mommaas

Born: September 12, 1969

Marc Mommaas, tenor saxophonist and composer was born in Tegelen, Netherlands on Sept. 12th, 1969. He grew up in Amsterdam and since 1997 made NYC his home. His father Henk Mommaas, was a well-known painter/artist in the Netherlands and developed his career in Amsterdam. His mother Carolien Collette is a pianist, opera singer and educator. His grandfather on his mother’s side was a professional multi instrumentalist playing flute, viola da gamba, recorder, organ, spinet and harpsichord and taught at the conservatory of Maastricht. His grandmother on his mothers side was an opera singer and his great grandfather an organ player. Although always surrounded by music and playing accordion and chromatic harmonica he first became an athlete (swimming)

Jimmy Jewell

Born: February 18, 1945

Short Biography Jimmy Jewell started out in 1962 playing tenor sax with various R&B and jazz bands in the north of England. In 1963 he decided to turn professional and joined the group Kris Ryan and the Questions, originally a rock band, which due to his influence, switched to playing R&B and Soul/Jazz, a la Ray Charles & James Brown. The band got a record deal with Mercury and 2 singles and an EP were released. The manager of the band wanted it to move in a more commercial direction and a solo single by Ryan was released. Jimmy left the band in 1965. He moved down to London in 1966 and played briefly with a soul band, Mack’s Sound
