Wayne Escoffery

Born: March 23, 1975

Since moving to New York City in 2000, tenor saxophonist Wayne Escoffery has become one of the Jazz world’s most talented rising stars and in-demand sidemen. He began his professional NY career touring and recording with The Eric Reed Septet. In 2001 he became a steady member of the Mingus Big Band/Orchestra/Dynasty, The Lonnie Plaxico Group, and Abdulah Ibrahim’s Akaya.

Then in 2004 Grammy award winning producer, arranger and trumpet player Don Sickler asked Wayne to be a part of Ben Riley’s Monk legacy Septet; an innovative piano-less group dedicated to carrying on the legacy of jazz great Thelonious Monk

Joel Frahm

For more than 30 years, Joel Frahm  lived in New York City, working in jazz clubs, collaborating with other musicians, and honing his craft. He now lives in Nashville, where he continues to play the music he loves. His bold, inventive tenor sound has won fans in the U.S. and across the world. He has worked alongside Betty Carter, Kenny Barron, Freddy Cole, Dianne Schuur, Kurt Elling, Jane Monheit, Bill Charlap, Brad Mehldau, Matt Wilson, Cyrille Aimee, and many other top artists. He has played as a leader or sideman on more than 100 recordings and has appeared at jazz festivals in the United States, Europe, Israel, Canada and South America

Ryan Oliver

A Juno-nominated, Toronto-based saxophonist, Ryan Oliver honed his craft on Canada’s west coast before moving to Amsterdam, Toronto and then New York. Since returning to Toronto, he has maintained a busy schedule as one of Canada’s most in-demand saxophonists. Oliver has toured India, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and Canada with the legendary eclectic jazz group, The Shuffle Demons. He is also a member of Juno award winning blues/rock performer Derek Miller’s group. Brian VanArsdale

Born: April 18, 1979

Brian VanArsdale is a New York-based saxophonist and composer whose music combines the beauty and form of previous generations with a splash of the current direction and cutting edge articism - creating a product that is appealing to both listeners and jazz critics alike. Originally from the southern United States, Brian attended school at the University of Illinois, University of North Florida, and Eastman School of Music, where he was twice recognized with awards for best performer. Brian was the recipient of five DOWNBEAT awards for his playing and writing, and twice performed at the East Coast Jazz Festival and IAJE Annual Convention

Music is something that should make you feel good. It has the power to transform one’s mood from gloomy to feelings of jubilation. Music always has been for me an outlet to express what I couldn’t sometimes say with words. Dayna Stephens

Roger Manins

Born: November 12, 1970

New Zealand saxophonist Roger Manins has previously recorded with Mike Nock & James Muller. This is his debut album for Jazzgroove (originally released on Ode in New Zealand) and features Manins with his Hip Flask band. HIP FLASK includes 7 original tracks composed by Roger Manins. "There is often an interesting correlation between the physicality of a musician and their sound and style. Roger Manins is a burly New Zealander who makes a big, bold sound on a tenor saxophone, and who smears thick, bright paint on his musical canvases. This recording was actually made back in 2001, when Manins was based in Sydney, and has the unusual instrumentation of Hammond organ (Stu Hunter), piano (Adam Ponting) bass (Brendan Clarke) and drums (Toby Hall)

Chris Farr

Saxophonist Chris Farr graduated from University of the Arts in 1995 and since then has been a highly sought after performer and educator. Chris is currently the head of the saxophone department at the University of the Arts. Chris is also a clinician and endorser of Eastman saxophones. Over the past 15 years has performed, toured and recorded with the likes of Elvis Costello, Jill Scott, Sting, John Legend, Mary J. Blige, The Roots, Teddy Pendergrass, Grover Washington, Gerald Veasley & Maynard Ferguson.

Rob Jacoby

Rob Jacoby is a New York-based musician concentrated in jazz. Although mainly a tenor saxophonist, he also has acute abilities on clarinet, flute, and the other saxophones, as well as bassoon and bass clarinet. Rob also plays club dates and many musicals, utilizing his doubling abilities. He leads his own group that plays private parties, clubs, and restaurants, in the New York City, Westchester County, and surrounding areas. Rob Jacoby grew up in White Plains, New York and graduated from Alexander Hamilton High School in Elmsford, NY. He began saxophone instruction at the age of 8 with his mentor, Milt Williams, father of actress/singer Vanessa Williams and actor/comedian Chris Williams
