Tim Rachbach: Under One Moon
by Mike Jurkovic
"Ancient Thread" forcefully opens 23 year-old drummer Tim Rachbach's solid debut, Under The Moon, and it's a fitting title, indeed. Throughout this and six other Rachbach compositions, ("Toy Tune" belongs to none other than saxophonist Wayne Shorter) a group of young adventurous players explore their way through the music's many nuanced turns. by Gareth Thompson
Be careful what you ask for if chaos is on the wish list. Israeli-born guitarist Gilad Hekselman invited disorder on this, his sixth outing, by employing two distinct backing bands. Andrew Kushnir: Influences
by Don Phipps
Judging from the album cover, a coffee-filled cup on a drum, one might anticipate that drummer Andrew Kushnir's debut album, Influences, would be a hard charging affair. And Kushnir and his trio (Ryan Slatko on piano and Rick Rosato on bass) do not disappoint. The trio offers up some head-bobbing jazz at its finest.
