Lucas began his piano studies at a very early age at Toronto’s Royal Conservatory of Music. During his classical training he participated in the “101 Pianists” concert led by pianist Lang Lang at Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto. When he was 11, Lucas enrolled in the Humber College Community Music School, an innovative program in youth jazz education started by pianist Oscar Peterson. While attending high school at the Etobicoke School for the Arts, Lucas participated in the Humber College Jazz Studies Senior Enriched Program under the direction of Kirk MacDonald and Lorne Lofsky; and was presented with the Humber College Piano Award
