Lumina
Born:
First of all, LUMINA was born as a guitar&drums duo, after only two incredible recording sessions without any rehearsals, editing and overdubs. Due to the unexpected and flaming result Fabio and Johny decided to join forces to form LUMINA. The “free-style sound” of LUMINA, although at the first moment it sounds like “broken” or “fragmented” without any structure, it shows us an unexpected “organic” structure after many auditions. That’s why they choose “Fractals” as the main symbol of Lumina. Lately, after listening to the “duo” recordings, Sizao Machado - well know all over the world by his performances with Chet Baker, Elis Regina, Herbie Memm, Chico Buarque, Djavan, Milton Nascimento, Jim Hall, Ivan Lins, Randy Brecker, Flora Purim, Airto Moreira, etc - joined the project

Masaya Yamaguchi
Born:
Masaya Yamaguchi was born as a second son in Nagano at birth and bred in Tokyo, Japan. During the mid-80's, he started playing the guitar in rock/pop style (the ridiculous affair still comes to his mind now and then). Yamaguchi became interested in jazz through a TV commercial [of "Suntory White"] by Japan's renowned distiller, which misleadingly featured the jazz bassist, Ronald Carter. Afterwards, Yamaguchi made his first purchase of a traditional 4-beat jazz album, which was John Coltrane's Giant Steps. At the age of 20, Yamaguchi changed his guitar style completely into jazz under the strong influence of John Coltrane--developing his own guitar style by the perfect 4th tuning (E, A, D, G, C, F- from the bottom to the top)

Mark Mollica
Guitarist and composer Mark Mollica began playing in his early teens, and within a year was writing for and performing with bands in his native southwest Connecticut. While enrolled at Skidmore College to pursue a non-fiction writing degree, his musical interests focused on jazz and solo fingerstyle guitar. There, he recorded a collection of solo guitar pieces, followed by the ensemble album The Gravity of Rivers featuring Brian Patneaude, Peter Swanson, and Nigel Sfantus. After graduating and publishing his first article, his attention instead turned to music full time. He performed throughout the Northeast with jazz bands, as an acoustic guitar soloist, and as arranger and guitarist for singer-songwriters

Jerry Johansson
Born:
Jerry Johansson: guitar, sitar
Jerry Johansson started out his musical journey some distant years ago in the Swedish city of Varberg, then as a guitar player and composer in various rock- and jazz-groups. After having had a minor revelation when experiencing a George Harrison-composition on a Beatles-album; an overwhelmed Jerry realised that the point of no return had finally arrived. He immediately began studying the classical Indian raga and the world of the sitar on an advanced level, with a most serious approach. This newly found universe of his does not only need highly concentrated and daily practise, but also requires an ascetical way of living and a humble approach to the world at large.
Sitar master Roop Verma appears, himself a former student of master Ravi Shankar; and he takes Jerry under his wings, so to speak, and Jerry becomes his pupil
