Abe Laboriel, Jr.

A highly sought after session drummer, Abe Laboriel, Jr. is the son of veteran bassist Abraham Laboriel, Sr. and grew up surrounded by music. He was playing drums by the age of four, and studied with several high-profile drummers, including Jeff Porcaro, Chester Thompson, Bill Maxwell, and Alex Acuña, who had formed the band Koinonia with Laboriel, Sr. in the 1980s. He also studied with Peter Donald at the Dick Grove School of Music during his junior year in high school, and in 1989 even drew a citation in Down Beat magazine. Wayne Smith Jr.

Nurtured in the legendary Philadelphia jazz scene, Wayne Smith, Jr.’s career as drummer is as promising as it is eclectic. After graduating from the famed Creative and Performing Arts High School, he went on to study at the world renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston. Eager to advance his music career, Wayne began performing regularly at staples of the Philadelphia jazz community including Chris’ Jazz Cafe and Ortlieb’s Jazzhaus. As his reputation grew, he branched out, performing in New York, Baltimore and Washington D.C alongside such well known musicians as Donald Byrd, Orrin Evans, Duane Eubanks, John Ellis, Stacy Dillard and Bootsie Barnes.  He teamed up with Victor North (saxophonist) and Lucas Brown (organist) to form Three Blind Mice and the trio still performs together to this day. After being tapped to join the legendary Sun Ra Akestra, Wayne toured Europe, Canada, and Australia, which would prove instrumental in his development as an artist.

Ian Froman

A seasoned creative and working musician, Ian moved to the US from Ottawa, Canada, where he began playing drums in his early teens, to study Jazz Performance, first at Berklee College of Music (B.M., 1984; selected to attend the Atlantic Center for the Arts in Florida to study with Elvin Jones), and then with Miroslav Vitous at the New England Conservatory (M.M., 1986). Ian is a faculty member at Berklee College of Music, Drummers Collective, New School University and City College of New York. Ian lives in New York City, where he has performed and recorded with many of the city’s top artists. His extensive touring in North America, Europe, and Asia has included club, concert, and festival appearances, as well as television and radio broadcasts with such artists as: John Abercrombie, Jerry Bergonzi, Michael Brecker, Gary Burton, Marc Copland, Garry Dial, Mathew Garrison, George Garzone, Larry Goldings, Mick Goodrick, Larry Grenadier, Tim Hagans, Craig Handy, John Hart, Kevin Hayes, Dave Holland, Dave Liebman, Rick Margitza, Cecil McBee, Ron McClure, Ben Monder, George Mraz, Mike Stern, John Taylor, Mirosolav Vitous, and Kenny Wheeler
