I was born in Budapest in 1968. I grew up in a family where music filled our everyday life, just like it is obvious in most of musicians life. My mother is a conductor and assistant professor at the Liszt Ferenc Music Academy, and a teacher at the Theatrical and Film Academy in Budapest, Hungary. My father handcrafts and repairs musical instruments. Despite this musical milieu in my family I was initially interested in fine arts, and I started to play music fairly late, when I was 16. I’ve studied classical music first at the conservatoire and I have learned to play on a drumset by myself. Back in those days rock and jazz were forbidden genres in the instruction of classical music and my teachers considered me kind of a black sheep for that

Jim Gordon
Born:
Jim Gordon, American Recording Artist, Musician and Songwriter. The Grammy Award winner was one of the most requested session drummers in the late 1960s and 1970s and was a member of the blues- rock supergroup, Derek & The Dominos. Gordon began his career backing the Everly Brothers in 1963 at age 17, he went on to become one of the most sought after recording session drummers in Los Angeles where in 1968 he recorded with Mason Williams on the hit Classical Gas. During this period, he performed on many notable recordings including Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys, Gene Clark with the Gosdin Brothers by Gene Clark and The Notorious Byrd Brothers by The Byrds

Harvey Sorgen
Harvey Sorgen, Hot Tuna's sizzling drummer, started playing drums and percussion instruments in 1964. His mastery of many styles-jazz, rock, funk and pop-is evident on recordings and gigs with Ahmad Jamal, Robbie Dupree, Roswell Rudd, Dry Jack, Bill Frisell, NRBQ, The Mallards (his own group) and many others, including Hot Tuna. Harvey's taught, performed his own compositions, traveled all over the world (including a two-year stint in Holland) and served as a sound engineer and producer. He has also written and performed pieces for film and the stage, including a solo percussion piece for the New Day Repetoire Theater’s version of “Antigone”

Jerome Jennings
Jerome Jennings is an internationally travelled artist whose distinct sound reflects a fierce connection to the swing tradition, soul music, and hip hop. One of his current projects is playing alongside Christian McBride and Christian Sands as part of the Christian McBride’s trio. As a performer Jerome Jennings has played every major Jazz club in New York City from The Village Vanguard, Birdland, The Blue Note, to Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola. Internationally he’s traveled to and performed in over 30 countries. As always, Jerome has remained a pertinent performer. His debut recording ‘The Beast’ was named one of the top 3 Jazz releases by NPR, received a 4 star rating in DownBeat Magazine, and nominated for the prestigious French ‘Grand Prix du disque’ award for Album Of The Year 2016

Joe Hertenstein
Born in Germany. In NY since Jan07. Freelance musician. Joe Hertenstein's recent performances include concerts at the Philharmony in Cologne, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, and the Moers Festival and XjazzFestival in Germany; the Congress Hall in Warsaw, Bush Hall London for BBC, the Opera House in Toronto, the World Trade Center in Dubai, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC, as well as Carnegie Hall, Dizzy's Club, Smalls, Roulette, Issue Project Room and The Stone in New York City. In 2005 "All About Jazz NY" magazine praised his performance observing that "Joe Hertenstein's drums seem to be shaping the music from the bottom up", and in 2011 “Hertenstein practices that loose time-keeping so prevalent in Europe that the ignorant use to claim that an entire continent can’t swing.” In November 2010 the Portuguese label Clean Feed Records released his remarkable debut album as a leader and composer “HNH” featuring Thomas Heberer (tp) and Pascal Niggenkemper (b). In 2009, the German government honored the further development of his trio "HNH" with a composition stipend to fund the recording of their next album "POLYLEMMA" which was released on the Canadian label Red Toucan in June 2011. For his artistic achievements, Mr. Hertenstein has received numerous awards and grants on both sides of the Atlantic. From 2007-2009, City University of New York, in cooperation with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), granted him a full scholarship and tuition waiver to complete his Master of Arts degree in Jazz Studies at the City University of New York. Prior to his work in New York, Mr. Hertenstein studied music in Munich, Rotterdam, Berlin and Cologne. In Europe, he won multiple Jazz competitions, such as the Dutch Concours Ceramique Jazzcontest, and the German NRW-Jazzart-Prize. Mr. Hertenstein has received invitations to perform at a substantial number of festivals, such as the Hoeilaart Jazzfestival Brussels (Belgium), JekerJazz Maastricht (Netherlands), the Leverkusener Jazztage, Moers New Jazz Festival, Triennale 2007 (Germany), Portalegre Jazzfest (Portugal), Warsaw Jazz Summer (Poland) and many more. In 2009, he followed an invitation of the BBC to conduct a live performance with singer and Iranian dissenter Rana Farhan at Bush Hall in London. Mr. Hertenstein has performed and recorded with many international musicians such as Anthony Coleman, Kenny Werner, Chris Potter, Butch Morris, Juini Booth, Kenny Wollesen, Graham Haynes, Brandon Ross, Tristan Honsinger, Darius Jones, Jon Irabagon, Mat Maneri, Mossa Bildner, James Ilgenfitz, Sara Schoenbeck, Josh Sinton, Ken Filiano, Sean Conly, Todd Neufeld, Achim Tang, Thomas Lehn, Frank Gratkowski, Dieter Manderscheid, Matthias Schubert, Achim Kaufmann, Sebastian Gramss and Terrence Ngassa. He toured Europe in 2004 and 2005 with Canadian blues harp player Carlos del Junco. His work is released on labels such as MoersMusic, Cleanfeed, Red Toucan, 2nd Floor, jazzwerkstatt Berlin, Evil Rabbit, Chant, Springstoff, Ravello/PARMA, Meta, muworks, Konnex, Off, Fundacja Słuchaj, Leo and others. In addition to his performances, Mr. Hertenstein taught as a faculty member at the Offene Jazzhausschule Cologne from 2002-2007, he worked as a faculty member for drums and percussion at the Lycee Francais de New York, and the Trinity School in Manhattan and is a teaching artist for the Kupferberg Center of Queens College. For his album POLYLEMMA, Hertenstein won Belgian music critic Stef Gijssel's 'Happy New Ears Award' for most innovative listening experience of 2011. Joe Hertenstein’s project 'FUTURE DRONE' features German bassist and 'Improviser In Residence' in Moers 2011, Achim Tang, and the winner of the 2008 Thelonious Monk Competition, tenor saxophonist Jon Irabagon. The debut album of 'FUTURE DRONE' was released on jazzwerkstatt Berlin in June 2012. Hertenstein was a member of Butch Morris' NY ensembles Nublu Orchestra and LUCKY CHENG Orchestra. Augusto Monk

Augusto Monk was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1971. As a child, he played the drums and later on the piano, the vibraphone and the orchestral percussion. At the age of 24, he went to Berklee College of Music in Boston where he graduated in Composition Magna Cum Laude. He studied the piano at The Boston Conservatory, and after working as an orchestra manager and a freelance keyboard player he moved to London-UK to gain his Master’s Degree in Composition for Films; he also worked as a ballet pianist and piano teacher. Later on, he gained a Postgraduate Certificate in Music Education, and after several frustrating experiences in the classroom, he started a PhD in “Pansonic Co-ordination”, i.e: playing several instruments at the same time as a one-man band. He started his career as a composer in 2000, and from the very beginning, Monk became aware of the difficulty of engaging an audience in new works

Obed Calvaire
Obed Calvaire (Drums), a native of Miami, is a graduate of the New World School of the Arts, a public high school in Miami-Dade County designed for artistically talented students. Mr. Calvaire was a candidate for a master of music degree in jazz drum set at Manhattan School of Music and has recently graduated in May 2005. He received his bachelor's degree from Manhattan School of Music in 2003, completing the undergraduate degree requirements in three years. He is in the studio of John Riley. Mr. Calvaire has performed with major jazz artists such as Wynton Marsalis, Danilo Perez, Bobby Watson, Mark Murphy, Stefon Harris, Josh Roseman, Eric Reed, Buster Williams and the Clayton Brothers Quintet

Born in a musical family (father drummer and mother singer) he fell into jazz at a very early age. Later on he turned to drums as there was always a set at home. Played in Switzerland a lot in clubs, festivals (Montreux, Cully) and onstage with local guys or passing by foreign musicians. Among others : Curtis Fuller, Walter Davis Jr, François Lindemann, Bob Mover, Dee Daniels, Liz McComb, Freddie Hubbard, Roy Hargrove, Bruce Forman, Thierry Lang, Big Band de Lausanne, Montreux Big Band a.o. Relocated to beautiful Vancouver, BC in Canada since 2017, he keeps playing in various bands and with local musicians (Cory Weeds, Sharon Minemoto, Steve Maddock, a.o.).
