Ben Bierman

Ben Bierman is a Brooklyn-based trumpet player, composer, and multi-instrumentalist. In his compositions he incorporates elements of jazz, blues, Latin music, and the Western art music tradition. His music can be heard on Some Takes On the Blues (Plaza Street Music PSM 101, 2019) and on Beyond Romance: Songs by Ben Bierman (New Focus Recordings FCR 141, 2013). As a trumpet player, Ben has performed with a wide array of artists, including Johnny Copeland, B.B. King, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Johnny Pacheco, Machito, Johnny Colon, Archie Shepp, and Arthur Blythe. He is the author of Listening to Jazz (Oxford University Press), has essays in numerous books and journals, and is an Associate Professor at John Jay College, City University of New York

Sarah Jerrom is a JUNO-nominated Canadian vocalist, pianist, composer and arranger specializing in jazz and creative music, taking her inspiration from lyric-driven melodies, genre-defying instrumentation and experimental soundscapes. As a bandleader, Sarah has released four critically-acclaimed albums to date: Magpie, a double album featuring her original eighty-six-minute suite for extended jazz orchestra (2024, TPR Records),  Dream Logic (2021, TPR Records), which showcases a collection of original songs recorded by her contemporary jazz quartet of the same name, The Yeats Project (2017), featuring W.B. Amy E. Denio

Denio (rhymes with ‘Ohio’ or ‘gennaio’) is a multi- instrumentalist composer and singer based in Hansville, WA. Home-taper since the Dark Ages of Analogue, she started her label Spoot Music in 1986, with the release of her first cassette, ‘No Bones.’ Since then, she’s recorded & released over 60 cassettes, LPs and CDs created solo and with an array of international musicians. Her parents played jazz semi-professionally, and she grew up in a musical household. She was inducted into the Seattle Jazz Hall of Fame in 2015. An award-winning composer, she has been creating & producing soundscores for dance, theater and film since 1983

Mike Holober

Described by Downbeat Magazine as “one of the finest modern composer/arrangers of our time” Mike Holober was awarded the 2022 American Academy of Arts and Letters Andrew Imbrie Award in Music.  His recent big band recording, "Mike Holober & The Gotham Jazz Orchestra:  Hiding Out" (ZOHO Music, 2019) was nominated for a 2020 GRAMMY® Award (Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album), and features two of his extended works for jazz orchestra.

Trained as a classical pianist and conductor, Mike began his apprenticeship as a jazz pianist and composer after moving to New York City in 1986. He has released six recordings as a leader, and can be heard on over 70 recordings as a sideman.  His projects include The Mike Holober QuintetBalancing Act (a jazz octet with voice), The Gotham Jazz Orchestra, and most recently The Marvin Stamm/Mike Holober Quartet.

James Hill is an award-winning Toronto-based pianist and composer. He is a member of multiple bands, most notably BADBADNOTGOOD and Autobahn Trio. As a co-leader he has released three albums with his band Autobahn Trio, and is currently working on a studio album with BADBADNOTGOOD. Further, Hill is near completing a solo piano project under his pseudonym Projectwhatever, which he intends to release in 2020. Marc Mommaas

Marc Mommaas, tenor saxophonist and composer was born in Tegelen, Netherlands on Sept. 12th, 1969. He grew up in Amsterdam and since 1997 made NYC his home. His father Henk Mommaas, was a well-known painter/artist in the Netherlands and developed his career in Amsterdam. His mother Carolien Collette is a pianist, opera singer and educator. His grandfather on his mother’s side was a professional multi instrumentalist playing flute, viola da gamba, recorder, organ, spinet and harpsichord and taught at the conservatory of Maastricht. His grandmother on his mothers side was an opera singer and his great grandfather an organ player. Although always surrounded by music and playing accordion and chromatic harmonica he first became an athlete (swimming)
